How to make the Wii U suck less.

If you have a Wii U, you probably noticed a few horrifying things such as:
1. No dvd or video playback
2. No mp3 playback
3. The crappiest youtube app ever made.

You can fix or at least substitute several of these things without hacking.

1. Use vidii U media server to stream videos from your pc to your wii u. There's a long-ish start up time, but after that it's pretty smooth sailing.
2. Yeah, I don't know. Youtube?
3. Use the internet browser instead of the youtube app. It's a lot better. Also, it doesn't hide results like the app does. It's easier to find videos, and you can log in easier to find your favorites and to rate videos and comment.

Other than that, I spend most of my time in vWii mode because the games are cheaper and because Ocarina of Time.

Re: How to make the Wii U suck less.

The only reason I'm getting a Wii U is for Wind Waker HD. Like, it's a 300 dollar game. And TOTALLY will be worth it from what I've heard.

Dood it's not even that expensive. And what will make it worth it? It's just an HD remake, right?

Yeah, but as someone without the original, or a gamecube for that matter... What I've heard about the original and how much better the hd version is, It seems like $300 for the Wii U and WWHD is a really good deal even if you don't get any other games.

You're joking about the $300, right? That's an obscene amount for a game.

My sources say it's only $40.

Does it take a month for messages to travel between you and your sources?

So, I guess the Wii U isn't worth buying? One of my YF's really really want me to buy one.. And I dunno, his stare is like a stare from a starving puppy. I'm a give in sooner or later.

Re: How to make the Wii U suck less.

If you're going to get one of the new generation of consoles, you're better off with an XBox One or a PS4. I'd probably go with the PS4.

I think most people would advise a PS4.

I don't own any of the new gen consoles, not even the handhelds. It makes me sad.

Re: How to make the Wii U suck less.

The PSP is still a great console. There's thousands of games out there for it and the emulators on it. PSP, PSX, GBA, SNES, NES, GB, GBC, DS, MAME, DOS, N64, it's got it all.

Basically Sony is pretty cool.

Pretty much. They make some mistakes sometimes and hate homebrew for no good reason, but they make good systems. Can't wait to see what happens when homebrewers finally get control of the vita and PS4.

Two words: Super Smash Bros. U, and Mario Kart 8. OK, more like eight words.

Arguably "U" isn't actually a word.

Re: How to make the Wii U suck less.

The Wii U+WWHD bundle is 300. So if you get no other games, it's basically a $300 game. Which I think would be worth it, because WWHD looks cool.

I think I'm going to save up for a $2000 gaming computer. Yeah, that's probably overkill. But I want the best if I'm going to use gaming as my career.

Then again, I'm entirely basing my claims off of reviews, I've never played the game and it could easily be overhyped.

No game is worth $60. Games are all overpriced.

Re: How to make the Wii U suck less.

Because. It's. Nintendo.

(Recent) Nintendo games are identical from other games. I've yet to see a (recent) nintendo game that made me say "You clever sonofahamster" from just the depth of the game play, but, for example, I've run into several on the PSP. Like disgaea: afternoon of darkness. It put a dungeon inside every item, which you could go inside in order to strengthen the item while taming masters who could boost the strength of items and be traded between items after being defeated in battle. And items have population limits for the tamed masters based on how strong they are. The game also rewards thinking out of the box. Throwing enemies onto enemies provides you with a stronger enemy. Throwing enemies into your base allows everyone still in the base to attack it. If your team survives the fight, the enemy is tamed and fights for you now. And there's still several other aspects in the main game I haven't even mentioned yet, like the Dark Congress where you can bribe and kill your way to getting laws passed. You could spend days mastering it and months of game play trying to get 100% completion if you're one of those people. And all of it is perfectly paced so you're never overwhelmed with the depth until you're halfway through and realize "Holy crap this is genius."

This from a decade-old handheld.[/advertisement]

Which probably means the problem is less about the amazingness of the games and more about the fact that recent nintendo games look like they're all directed fully at filthy casuals. The GC had some nice games. After the Wii it got gimmicky and causal.

tl;dr: Nintendo games are identical from other games. Nintendo gets gimmicky a lot. Nintendo uses weak hardware compared to opposition, and it shows.

And there's the whole thing of not being able to do the most basic stuff like watch DVDs, Blu-Ray, CDs, or anything on it, because we already have a thousand devices to do that already and it's not like consolidating them into one device like literally every other disc-based console does would save space or raise the value of the console or make users happy or something.

If a game with even half the depth exists for a Nintendo console, I want to know about it.

Scribblenauts (contains swearing)

Yeah, that's probably not deep enough, but that's probably because there was too much to comprehend in the huge wall of text that made it hard for my brain to process. So, this probably isn't good enough.
