No need to downgrade, there's a signed version that works on all official firmwares! I have an "unhackable" psp 3001, but I was able to downgrade to 6.20 and start with some lite custom firmware, and then I found out there's all those homebrew games... and then there's signed homebrew. It looks to the psp like an official game. So it works. Here's a few lists of homebrews that work:

there's also a signed homebrew signer that runs from the psp. Just feed it a few eeboots from games you want to sign, it chews on it for maybe a minute and when it comes out, just put it back and BAM, signed homebrew. GO NUTS MY MINIONS. Remember, it's not illegal, and sony has said several times that they wanted to tap into the creativity of some homebrew games. The reasons all the holes are closing up and preventing us from playing homebrew is that they CAN be used for illegal stuff. And you won't lose any save data if that's what your worried about. With these, you aren't working with cfw at all so there's no chance of bricking it. I do have cfw and I still have all my save data.
