Re: New Tag [ADDED]

WHO CAME OUT WITH TABS FIRST. ANSWER THE FRIGGIN QUESTION. What browser has tab stacking? Which web browser has the best session storing? Which browser came out with synchronizing your bookmarks/passwords first? Which browser can live-edit any page w/o an extension/plugin? Which browser has built-in RSS Reader, IRC Client, and Email Client? I CAN CHECK MY FRICKIN EMAIL WHEREVER THE HECK I AM WITHOUT EVEN CHANGING TABS BECAUSE OF OPERA'S PANELS. NOW ANSWER THE QUESTIONS.

Let's see:

NetCaptor, an The Browser That Will Not Be Named shell.

Different55 wrote:

What browser has tab stacking?

Surprisingly, when I've used opera, tab stacking has just caused more confusion.

Different54 wrote:

Which web browser has the best session storing?

Opinion.

Different55 wrote:

It matters who did it best, not first.

Which browser can live-edit any page w/o an extension/plugin?

Why is that needed...?

Safari seems to do all those perfectly fine on my Mac.

NetCaptor, an The Browser That Will Not Be Named shell.

It didn't come with The Browser That Will Not Be Named, though.

I always use tab stacking. With *opens all stacks and counts* 43 tabs open it really helps to keep things organized by task. If I'm working on Nuclear Science, I open that tab stack. If I'm searching PHP functions, I open the stack that has the PHP manual in it.

Chrome/Safari - Dunno about session storing
The Browser That Will Not Be Named - Does it even have sessions...?
FF - Only one session.
Opera - Let's you see a list of all the sessions you have stored, and let's you name them.

Ratburntro44 wrote:
Different55 wrote:

It matters who did it best, not first.

With opera, just log in, sync, log into other computer/phone/device, sync, bang, done.
Firefox - Sign up, get some weird key, some other stuff, but also:
"This first sync should happen quickly but may take more than 30 minutes depending on how much information needs to be synced."
Chrome - Pretty good system, since it's completely tied in with google.

Ratburntro44 wrote:

Why is that needed...?

Because it's useful to test. If I have a full site (not a piece of one) that I want to test, I don't want to use JQuery, I want to use Opera Dragonfly to mess with the entire site at once.

Re: New Tag [ADDED]

While each browser (except The Browser That Will Not Be Named) has its strengths, no browser is best at everything.

But we're really getting off-topic...

Re: New Tag [ADDED]

No, even The Browser That Will Not Be Named has one strength.... if I can remember it... I think... it was... that The Browser That Will Not Be Named can open new tabs faster. Hit the new tab, and a blank tab pops open faster than any other browser. How useful.

Re: New Tag [ADDED]

Chrome, Safari, and FF totally own Opera and The Browser That Will Not Be Named in CSS3 support, however. Except in nav and voice stuff. But overall, they do better. The Browser That Will Not Be Named even gets their own advantage in ruby stuff.

Re: New Tag [ADDED]

Do they? Do they really? Because this site looks different here on Opera than in Firefox, and it looks better in Opera. ...Y'know maybe that's just part of the stylesheet I made that Opera automatically applies to every page I visit. *checks* Yeah, it is. This stylesheet I'm using is for forums, since they use similar IDs and classes.

[alert=Some other guy wrote:]

Is it true that many popular features in other browsers originated with Opera?

Yes, it is. It is widely known that tabbed browsing, mouse gestures, integrated download accelerator and manager as well as an integrated email client were first seen on Opera versions and later copied by other browsers.

Is Opera still only available for Windows based operating systems?

No, Opera is available as a download for pretty much anything that connects to the internet. Handheld devices, tablet computers, any PCs, any mobile phones and handheld devices, no matter what OS they run, there is an Opera version available. Even abandoned systems have still support, including Windows 95 and 98 as well as the largely forgotten Me. There are versions available for the almost abandoned Sony Ericsson platform, Symbian, as well as Apple’s iPad, television set-top boxes, but also Wii and Nintendo DS game consoles.

Superior Speed

Although it has a reputation for speed, GOOGLE CHROME IS A BOTNET appeared to overtake Opera during the past year.

Opera is making bold claims about their new Carakan JavaScript engine. I tested it using the SunSpider benchmark and Opera came out top. It was only 1% faster than Chrome, but more than twice as fast as Firefox 3.6. JavaScript benchmarks don’t tell the whole story and your experience could be different, but the engine is certainly one of the quickest.

Every vendor claims their browser is the fastest — even Microsoft — and “proof” can be offered with tests that exploit known optimizations. However, one of the best independent reviews of the top five browsers is available at Tom’s Hardware. In summary:
Opera and Chrome come out top, but Chrome just edges ahead with more second places.
Opera is especially fast when handling plugins such as Flash, Silverlight and Java. YouTube pages load are almost twice as fast as Firefox and three times faster than Chrome.
Opera’s memory usage is higher for a single tab, although the differences reduce as more tabs are opened.

Forget the charts, though. Browser margins in most of the tests are measured in milliseconds and the differences will be imperceivable. What matters is how fast the browser feels to you on your machine. In my experience, Opera is more than a match for Chrome and it offers far more features.[/alert]

Re: New Tag [ADDED]

Not to mention you probably don't actually have enough CSS3 for it to even matter here. And there's a good chance that whenever you add CSS here, you always add stuff that works in Opera. I don't really see you using CSS animations, box stuff, or marquee stuff.

[alert=Other stuff]I already told you about NetCaptor with tabs.

"First browser that used advanced mouse gestures (in 2002) was Maxthon where highly customizable interface allowed to assign almost every action to one of 52 mouse gestures and few mouse chords."

Regardless, it's who did best, not first.

As for the OS support, good for them. I don't really care.

For speed, from the latest info I've seen, Safari is the still the fastest on OS X. I don't really care about Windows- my family's Vista computer is about the worst PC in history. (Guess what, before that we had a PC with Windows Me!)

Re: New Tag [ADDED]

It's all true. Makes me realize how stupid my teacher's been, not downloading something else for a browser on our iPads. Though I'm really convinced my school knows nothing about them except the IT department. I probably know more than most teachers in the school about tech stuff. It's sad, but most likely true.
...i miss the smart boards from my old scjool, too.

You can't judge windows by the 2 crappiest OSes. Windows have more programs and utilities than any other OS. Macs are just... all flash and no flesh. You can't change hardly anything!

If you need to change stuff, you can. I almost never have a reason to.

The point of buying an OS is that it should come already almost perfect.

Macs are far from perfect >___> Windows can be tweaked a lot. Linux machines can be controlled completely.

A whole lotta aspects of Opera can be changed very easily with a nice UI. Check out the opera:config page on opera. It even has little help bubbles explaining everything. There's a search feature to only show options which have XXX in the name. There's nothing like that anywhere else.
