School computer tricks

Rules:
- Nothing destructive.

Tricks I've acquired:

Screen Flip

This one works on most school computers. Mostly the black/silver ones with DELL on the side and running Windows sprite12 (seems like the school default). Press Ctrl+Alt+Down Arrow to flip it upside down, and Left and Right to flip it the other ways. Up to reset.

Various beeps and whistles

Hold num lock key for 5 seconds. Hit OK. Press any of the lock keys (Num Lock, Caps Lock, Scroll Lock) to make a beep. My favorite is to turn the num lock on, the other two off, and press Caps-Num-Scroll really fast. Or just press them all really fast.

Press Ctrl+Shift+NumLock, press ok, turn the num lock on, and use the 1,2,3,4,6,7,8,9 keys to control the mouse. 5/enter to click. You have to use the num pad. Pressing the num lock key again makes it beep.

Transparent Windows

Download this program, you can copy it to a flash drive or whatever, and run it at school. Drag the transparency bar and you can some neat ghost images to leave up after you go.

Re: School computer tricks

They've got things locked up pretty tight here. However, even if they don't allow access to the C:\ drive, you can still get to it by going to the Start Menu>All Programs>Accessories>double click any folder there. Then hit the up button until you're in the C:\ drive. The games, if they deleted the games folder, most likely have not been deleted and they can be found in C:\WINDOWS\ and C:\WINDOWS\system32\

With the screen flip on the black/silver DELLs at my school you have to be logged in first.

I like changing all the names on the desktops to random characters that you find in a Word document opened with Notepad

Also, covering the desktop with firefox

My school sucks. They have one computer. It's connected to about 50 monitors. So I don't think it'll work.

Re: School computer tricks

They're all slapped together pretty much the same way. All re-imaged every summer. All running the same OS on very similar versions of computers. Some are bigger/smaller than others. Some only stand up. The teacher's and most library ones lay down.

Re: School computer tricks

-__- The right click is disabled most places on our computers. They even took out the File menu on several programs. That's why I ALWAYS use opera on school computers. Opera isn't messed up like Firefox and The Browser That Will Not Be Named are.

Any recent mac/apple mouse supports right click.

Ctrl+C Ctrl+X Ctrl+V. Word and Firefox allow right-clicking. So does Opera. The Browser That Will Not Be Named supports limited right-clicking.

Re: School computer tricks

Another one:
Start
Control panel
taskbar and start menu
check auto hide taskbar
Ok
MUAHAHA! the taskbar disappears until you get close to it! annoying, isn't it?

Variation on the one above:
Start
Control Panel
taskbar and start menu
Uncheck lock taskbar
apply (not OK, apply)
drag the top of the taskbar to the bottom of the screen
click lock taskbar
click OK (ok this time, not apply)
MUAHAHA! you can't get the taskbar back!
HOW TO FIX: press the Windows key and the start menu should appear and you can put it back.

Re: School computer tricks

yeah. they let us access it at our school to customize backgrounds and stuff. Speaking of control panel...
1. Start
2. control panel
3. icon mode (with icons instead of 4 categories)
4. mouse
5. find the tab that has the picture of a mouse (i think it only has one tab, maybe)
6. forget step six
7. check reverse default button or whatever it is
8. OK
9. MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! you have reversed the left & right buttons!

Can't do any of these without a right click.

I've taken to adding firebug on the school computers. It makes messing with everything way easier.
