Global Warming- Real and now.

Anyone read The Homework Machine by Dan Gutman? Remember red socks day? I intend to do that (but maybe a lot slower)
So, spread this text around:

Global Warming is real- and happening now. We've all heard the mass numbers. TRILLIONS of pounds of Carbon Dioxide are being put into the air. But we can stop that. If every child in america changed a lightbulb from an incandescent lightbulb to a CFL, we could save 50 BILLION pounds of carbon dioxide from being put into the astmosphere. That's why I am proposing a national Lightbulb Day. I expect this message to take less than a year to get around, so I propose the date to be January First, 2013. If we all changed one lightbulb on that one day, We could reduce our carbon footprint by 30,000,000,000 pounds! (30 billion pounds!)
But we don't have to wait around `till 2013. We can all do our part by recycling; by turning off our computers instead of that energy consuming screensavers; by using clean energy sources instead of burning fossil fuels. Have you ever heard of peridite? Peridite can absorb its weight in carbon dioxide, so if you know any scientists working on global warming, make sure they know!

Now that you have read this, spread it around! This message needs to reach all across America by 2013!

Re: Global Warming- Real and now.

The problem is that I already changed all my light bulbs. Why should we wait to change light bulbs? If people would do this right now we would save a lot more than if we waited. I think it should just be go change your light bulb right now.

Yeah, but more effect if it is all on one day.

Re: Global Warming- Real and now.

Bullcrap.
Global warming is a scam.
I went to wunderground.com, and got the temperature values for several cities across the planet. You know what I found? No significant increase/decrease. NONE. There's another guy who took some more weather data and ran it through some data analysis program and the output from each city all says:

<numbers and variables>
Null Hypothesis:
Sample drawn from populations with difference of means equal to 0.
<numbers>
Result: [Accepted]
There is no statistical evidence against the null hypothesis.

-_- this took forever to type on my psp. good thing opera can copy/paste.

It has more effect the earlier you do it.

Re: Global Warming- Real and now.

You mean no effect?

CO2 doesn't trap nearly as much heat as the ppl think.

Personally, I'd be fine if the planet heated up another 10 degrees. I'm cold >_>

@Different beware. Al Gore might kick you off the Internet.

However global warming is real; but not necessarily immediately bad. Look up dubia. We would actually have more fertile land than today. The change itself is the problem, not the result.

Exactly. The carbon Dioxide is helping the plants, but the polar ice caps are melting. it has two sides to it.

Because things just don't work that way

In slightly related news, ski season ended for me near the beginning of March, where I can usually ski until late April.

I had almost no snow this winter. I LIVE IN MASSACHUSETTS.
The plants have plenty of CO2 to hold them off for awhile, but ice caps need cold, something we don't have if CO2 goes everywhere.

Re: Global Warming- Real and now.

This year was just a freak year. A couple of years ago the ice was so bad we went without power for a week+. It's normal that things vary a bit. The earth goes through climate cycles.

Lice the Ice Age? And the boiling time of the dinosaurs? We are going into a hot part of the cycle then, if this is what you mean. We need to do all we can to keep humanity from dying out in the heat of the 'climate cycle'.

Re: Global Warming- Real and now.

Not really. We'll adapt. I went to a really cold part of Alaska and there were a few people wearing shorts one day. Crazy stuff. If people can do that with cold we can do it with heat, too.

Re: Global Warming- Real and now.

There's a difference between adapting and getting used to. People who run on high mountain tops ADAPT larger lungs. People in MA during winter GET USED to the cold.

I'm not. heat means bugs. We will slowly get run over by bugs that can adapt quicker.

Re: Global Warming- Real and now.

We just use the same tactics we use at other times. Heat means more bugs, but it doesn't mean that the bugs are all of a sudden resistant to bug spray and able to chew through mosquito nets. It's more of the same. We adapt, too. We may not change ourselves, but we can change our environment. Our homes. A/C.

Anyway, A/C to deal widdit probably isn't a good idea. We all need to stand around fires at midday like I do sometimes.

Global warming isn't an IMMEDIATE concern. It's very gradual. If a 50 year span shows NO increase/decease AT ALL, then 100 won't either. If it's there at all, it's so slow it's amazing they caught on. The temps don't lie. They haven't changed in 50 years.

Re: Global Warming- Real and now.

If humans and all buildings/products disappeared off the planet, it would still keep heating up. So why try to go green? It's not going to do anything. Instead, let's deal with coping with this "problem"

That is a completely pathetic reason. It's like saying, hey, you're going to die anyways, so why live in the first place?

Heat means more bugs, but it doesn't mean that the bugs are all of a sudden resistant to bug spray and able to chew through mosquito nets. It's more of the same. We adapt, too.

Yes, but in 50 years, we me be facing bugs that have begun to resist all that. Have you ever realized how fast bugs can reproduce and adapt through natural selection? We take around 20-30 years to reproduce once or twice, maybe 3 or more. But bugs can lay thousands of eggs after a week or so of life.

Global warming isn't an IMMEDIATE concern. It's very gradual. If a 50 year span shows NO increase/decease AT ALL, then 100 won't either. If it's there at all, it's so slow it's amazing they caught on. The temps don't lie. They haven't changed in 50 years.

Again, the way you look at this stuff... *shudder* That college application isn't an IMMEDIATE concern, I'll just wait until junior year to do good in school. My kids' and grandkids' future isn't an IMMEDIATE concern, I might already be dead by then! So why do I care about what happens!
