Stupid browsers. BACK TO OPERA!

Yeah, here's the rundown:
GOOGLE CHROME IS A BOTNET- won't install.
Firefox- Freezes from random scripts.
The Browser That Will Not Be Named- sucks.

WHAT'S LEFT:
Safari- hates my flash games.
Opera- my NEW PREFERENCE!

My dad doesn't trust it because he's never heard of it, so I'm keeping it hidden.

And I'm wearing glasses now, so I feel all smart.

I set up file sharing on one computer and my dad thought it caused the other computer's monitor to mess up. Which lasted for about 5 seconds anyways.

Cool.

Anyone have ideas for extension that I could use? I'm using the WOT and ghosters extensions.

I can't figure out how to set cookies on Opera. ?

Re: Stupid browsers. BACK TO OPERA!

What do you mean by "set cookies"?
I use the OMeasure extension to measure signatures on the ee forums. It's very nice. I also use the weather extension to get the forecast quickly and easily. There's another one I like called Auto Stack. When I have tabs stacked, and I open a new tab from one that's in a stack, it will add it to the stack it was opened from, rather than placing it outside the stack. Also, for me:

Chrome. Lol bugs everywhere. It says it has crashed, but if I move the error box out of the way I can still use chrome. And it will crash out of freaking nowhere. True story: I was using chrome on a school computer, and any time I tried to go to google.com it would crash. Srsly. That was the only website I found that crashed it consistently, and it happened until I got bored and switched to FF.

FF. Frequently, firefox's own scripts will pop up errors. If I try to download something, it freezes for a few minutes, then tells me download.js (one of firefox's scripts) has frozen. I tell it to continue, and then it downloads. Also, it uses more memory with one tab open than opera uses with 8.

The Browser That Will Not Be Named. LOL

Safari. No. The evil Apple created it.

Opera. My favorite. Customizability everywhere. Rarely freezes/crashes. I usually have 10-15 tabs open, occasionally more, and with tab stacking I can easily switch between one task and another. Also, it lets me restore tabs and arrange them so I can have multiple things open at once. I can have coldstorm in this corner of the screen (Built-in IRC client. Heck yeah.), another chat in this corner, the ee forums auto-reloading on the side, and a game on the other half of the screen. AWW YEAH. I mentioned the IRC client. Did I mention you can customize that and the built-in email client with CSS? No? Well, you can. I hated the default smiley to image conversion, so I used CSS to change that stupid smiley to text like it's supposed to be. Also, skins. They are awesome. I'm using a sexy black and blue/rainbow theme called Dragon Blues Aero. It's animated. Also, I like how you can press Ctrl+Tab and you get a list of all tabs. Pressing tab again cycles through the list (there's a preview of each site as you tab over it) or you can click the tab you want. Useful for when you're in full screen mode. Also, you can easily change basic settings by pressing F12.[/rant]

Re: Stupid browsers. BACK TO OPERA!

That's a nice rant you got there.

Never had those problems with Firefox. Until now.

Apple's not evil. Without Apple, we wouldn't have tablets. You know, probably.

I don't often have a bajillion tabs open at once, or I would've installed that tab grouper.

Set cookies. Whenever I log in it says that a cookie hasn't been set. It then tells me to set a cookie. I found the cookies menu. I just can't figure out how to work it.

I'm using the blue mountains theme. It's cool. Reminds me of Guilin in China.

IDK how to do all that stuff you just mentioned (Total nub right here.)

Re: Stupid browsers. BACK TO OPERA!

Rankings:

1. Safari + Opera; depends on personal needs and platform; Safari is better on Mac while generally Opera beats Safari for Windows
3. Firefox; good, but more bugs
4. Chrome; Google took Safari then mangled it into a memory devouring ugly , bug spitting, ugly monster
5. IE9-10; you know why
6. AOL; basically the Chrome of the 90s
7. IE7-8; wut wut

Infinity. IE6 and lower; why does anyone use these anymore?

It depends whether you have the perspective of someone trying to make a website compatible with IE8.

Re: Stupid browsers. BACK TO OPERA!

@Coolio. I learned all the tricks opera has by using google and smashing buttons. Right click the tabs, and you have a lot of options. Right click the page, and you can block offensive images by specific image or by site. Turn on cookies by pressing F12 and make sure Enable Cookies is checked. If that doesn't work, I'll send you my config file. also, opera:config. Try messing around in there. Read the helpful help bubbles. Don't try about:config on firefox unless you aren't easily scared by long strings of nonsense.
@Rat.
Forget The Browser That Will Not Be Named and tell anyone using it to get a better browser. Unless you're getting paid. Then it's a bad idea.

More extensions:
Documents - lets you open a ton of documents like PDF, Word, Excel, TIFF, PSD, SVG, TTF, OTF, and a few more in opera. Why use this instead of Adobe Reader? It can't crash or freeze Opera, it's faster, it saves bandwidth, more customizable, and it uses less memory.

YSlow - helpful hints on how to optimize your website.

The Reminder - Pops up reminders in your speed dial.

AutoPatchWork - Automatically loads the next page. When you get to the bottom, if it sees there are multiple pages, pressing space will load the next one. Very nice for forums and google searches and whatnot.

Focus On Textbox - Adds a glow around textboxes when they have focus. The glow is completely customizable. The default settings reminds me of OS X.

YouTube AdsFree - Removes ads from youtube. big_smile

Textarea resizer - Lets you resize <textarea>, <img>, <input>, <select>, and a few more.

ImgTip - Hover over an image/image link, get a tooltip containing the image. Works even on Facebook, google/bing/yahoo, and deviantart where indirect links are used.

BinFix - You know how sometimes you click a file link, and you get random garbage text? This fixes that.

Facebook Ad Cleaner - I don't use facebook, but I remember the ads that were on the side. This supposedly gets rid of them.

Facebook Redirect Fixer - Facebook uses redirects to track what you're clicking on. This removes that, protecting your privacy slightly and making links load that much faster.

Mini Wolfram Alpha - NOWAILOLJKJKJK IT'S WOLFRAM ALPHA IN A BUTTON

Google Images Direct - Instead of giving you that page where you see the page the image came from with the picture in the middle, clicking on an image takes you straight to the image.

Tilt! - Tilt any page.

No Click to Activate - Removes that annoying Click to Activate tooltip from unfocused flash objects.

Extension Finder - Shows you extensions that could help you with the site you're viewing.

Pretty cool extensions. Oh, and if I click on something (anything, really) too long, there's this annoying menu that pops up. Any ideas?
Enable cookies was already checked...
Off to the opera extensions place.

Re: Stupid browsers. BACK TO OPERA!

1. Never heard of what you're talking about. What are you clicking on, what is the menu, and how long are you clicking?
2. Go to C:\Program Files\Opera\ then find the your config file. It should be named operaprefs.ini. Also, try going to opera:config and doing a search for "cookie" and see what you can see.
3. Yay!

AAWWWW YEEEAAH
So I have a PSP and I like to keep track of the homebrew scene. On the main page of this blog (wololo.net) it has summaries of each article. When I haven't visited for a while I have to open each one in a new tab to read the full article of everything. But this autopatchwork extension for some reason detects all the articles. All I have to do is open the oldest one I haven't read, and it will list the full article of the one I clicked then the next most recent under that, then the next most recent, and so on until it's done everything.

2. Eh, whatever, I can deal with logging in.

Re: Stupid browsers. BACK TO OPERA!

There's something wrong with my mouse, that was the problem. It double clicks for no reason. Just double click on text. I just turned off mouse gestures.

How do you use your workspace? I tried using 4 tabs at once, but it has problems with facebook and the forums because they're too big for the quarter-sized window.

Re: Stupid browsers. BACK TO OPERA!

If something is too big, try going to the mobile version. Most of the chats I use just change with opera. If they don't, zoom out a little. I don't use that feature too often because I'm busy with drumline and now school.

Also, to fix your mouse, download the program mousefix from here:
http://danieljackson.co.uk/fun/old/
My mouse has the same program, and this totally works.

Also, more extensions:
Easy User CSS - This makes it easy to write custom CSS for specific sites. Just open the menu on the site you want to modify, type in your new CSS, tada! This helps when you're restoring tabs to see multiple things at once.

@Coolio I don't get it the menu.

I have no error messages on chrome.

My perspective on browsers:

1. Chrome - ownage
2. Firefox - awesome, but crashes a little
3. Safari - Apple sux, but decent browser
4. The Browser That Will Not Be Named 7-8 - Works smooth, but hates flash games. And layout is meh.
5. The Browser That Will Not Be Named 9 - Because It's a step backwards.
6. Opera - CRASHFEST!
7. The Browser That Will Not Be Named 6 and below - A living fossil that don't do anything.
8. Other browsers. - Nubcakes.

My perspective on OSs.

1. Windows 7 - epic ownage
2. All Apple IOSs - Because.
3. Windows Vista - :/
4. Windows 2000 - :/
5. Linux - UGH
6. Chromebook OS - because it doesn't support GIMP or Photoshop and can be hacked (Google Cloud saving -_-)
7. Windows 8 - A leap backwards
8. Windows 95 - Good for it's time
9. Windows 98 - Nubcake
10. Anything Older - GOLDEN OLDIES

1. Firefox. There's no errors, and it's awesome.
2. GOOGLE CHROME IS A BOTNET. It's OK, slower than Firefox while it claims it's faster, and has a bit of errors.
3. Opera. I never really tried it, and to me, Firefox is fine with me, so I don't bother downloading it.
4. Safari. Never tried it, but I may as well put it below Opera since a few others here really like it, but I don't think it's worse than The Browser That Will Not Be Named.

I'd say

1. Safari - Works well for me, no problems, nice UI, Mac version is fastest Mac browser.
2. Opera - Best browser for Windows, pretty much error free, also customizable, unfortunately isn't quite as good on a Mac as Safari.
3. Firefox - Rarely crashes, good interface, and pretty reliable when it comes to web standards, works basically the same on both Mac and Windows, has good customizability.
4. Chrome - Simulates being faster by slowing down your computer as a whole, eats ridiculous amounts of RAM, UI doesn't fit in on Mac or Windows.
5. Idiot Exploiter - Why would anyone use this?

I didn't include others because they really can't be generalized.

1. Opera. Runs fast, never lags, uses little memory, no errors, haven't crashed in about a year, TONS of features and customizability. I've got sexy Win7 buttons on sprite12.
2. Maxthon. Seems like opera. Lots of features, but Opera can do anything Maxthon can.
2. Firefox. Frequent frozen javascript errors (they look like internal scripts like resource://js/etc/etc/tabbox.js), lags.
3. Safari. Missing a few key features. Like the ability to search from the address bar. Doesn't lag, though.
4. Chrome. *opens chrome* *goes to ee.forumify.com* *chrome has frozen* *moves error message out of way* *continues using chrome while the errors pile up on the edges of the screen*
5. The Browser That Will Not Be Named. BOO.
6. PSP's web browser. Pages take minutes to load, but it supports gifs and some flash.
