IMO it's delicious. Try a grilled cheese with two slices of American, or any Wendy's cheeseburger. All American cheese is is a blend of milk, milk fats and solids, with other fats and whey protein concentrates. All cheddar (a random type you all consider good) is is cultured milk, rennet, salt, enzymes, and annatto. At least you know what fat, milk and protein is, I bet none of you can name what annatto is off the top of your head.

To be honest, american cheese isn't the most HORRIBLE thing on the planet. However, I still prefer cheddar and swiss. And american is still not considered a "cheese". It's "cheese product".

American cheese is not cheese. All you have to do is look at your ingredient list; if there is no cultured milk, it isn't cheese. Period. Cheese is made from bacteria fermenting the lactic acid. American cheese does not have that.

I know perfectly well what cultured milk and salt are. Rennet and enzymes are simply things that aid in the creation.

Also, I actually did know what annatto is, but it isn't even a necessary ingredient in cheddar cheese; white cheddar doesn't have it, it is just the dye.

The only things close to cheese in american cheese is the whey protein concentrates, amounts of protein taken out of a byproduct of cheese production. Uhll.

American cheese is technically not cheese. But we all know it is, same as how KMart is technically not Sears but we know it's the same company. If it looks like cheese, tastes like cheese, smells like cheese, and works like cheese, it's cheese.

I prefer cheddar to american if it's on a burger. American tastes a little sweet for me to be on a burger. I don't use cheese all that often, though.
