Here's a serious question..

Here's this thing.

So, say if you was  going to the place  (court)  and you knew you was going to loose everything, your family, a load of money, go to prison for 10+ years, and probably get mauled to death in there... Would you just end your life before the court date? Or would you wait and be strong?

If I was innocent, I would run. If I was guilty, I'd stay. There are other factors that would keep me from running but these are the main things.
