I could play Mario on my phone with an emulator, but that doesn't make my phone the best. The Wii U, like my phone, has a lot of gimmicky games that cater to filthy casuals. The Wii U is really underpowered as well. One thing I do like about it is that they're porting some good games from the GBA and SNES that are pretty cheap. The vWii also has a good collection of N64 games. I've enjoyed playing F-Zero X on it. On the actual Wii U side of things, I mainly just watch movies and shows on Amazon Prime. I rarely actually play Wii U games because they're so overpriced, but that can be said about any latest gen console. It's a bit of a bigger problem on the Wii U though because it's so much weaker than both the PS4 and XB1 and the games are shorter and less... I don't know how to phrase it. It just seems like they put so much less effort into them. What I'm trying to say here is that its a bigger problem because you're getting less game for the same, already-bloated cost.
Back to the main point I set out to make half an hour ago:
Mario is available to play for a bunch of consoles. You could get a GameCube and have Mario for cheaper, as well as all the other, arguably better GC games available. Or a Wii. You still get the great games from the GC era, as well as more games directed at casuals that kids your age seem to enjoy very much. Casual games like Mario and all that for now, with the option available to buy cheap GC games when you're older and know better.
