Magic takes up a skill slot. This is the basic gist on how magic works:
<Classico> different areas used languages to evoke power but then the universal language spread across the continent and people lost magic
<Classico> magic depends on one's ability to tap into ancestral roots and say magic words
<Classico> and languages differ so different ancestries have different types of magic

Basically, you pick a general area of concentration for your magic. Elemental magic isn't really a thing, this is more like specialties in plants, animals, divination, medical, mental, etc.
